The film was a box office hit and garnered much appreciation from the critics. Nitu (Kareena Kapoor) is the girlfriend of Jassi (Karisma Kapoor), who lives in New Delhi. Jassi's mother Doli (Kamal Haasan) is very traditional and believes in God, but has not even budged an inch when it comes to giving her daughter a modern and progressive life. Jassi and her friends Meka (Salman Khan) and Veere Di (Shilpa Shetty) visit the temple to get married. Her friends arrive late, which angers Jassi's mom, who insists Veere Di be forced to go back home with them immediately. Jassi protests, saying she will get married without her. The movie is all about how they fall in love and get separated due to reasons beyond their control, but come together again in the end after suffering for years of separation.
